Repenting of Our Naked Adultery

Gonna be blunt here:

It’s long past time for our evangelical leaders who lauded Trump to repent; those who preached him from their pulpits; who wrote endless articles redacting his defenseless behavior; who turned their ministries into partisan camps of political chicanery; who said nothing when this man verbally murdered individual after individual; who fomented baseless election conspiracies; who attended the rallies and jeered “drain the swamp”; who touted false prophecies; and decapitated every circumspect, Spirit-borne analysis of the man.

In the six years since Trump has been a centerpiece on our evangelical landscape (the thought still boggles the mind) I’ve had at least four friends who have met with Trump himself and verbally insisted that (against all public evidence) his evangelical advisors were speaking forthright words of Godly truth and correction to him. They had not lost their voice. Their relationship with the man was filled with gospel integrity. Most of these friends no longer communicate with me and my kind. The hogwash of their claims is now plain to see.

The man still prays no prayers. Unremittingly eviscerates everyone who disagrees with him. Continues to drop f-bombs in his public speeches. Routinely vaunts himself as a unique man above all others. Boldly incites contraSermon on the Mount furor among his loyalists. Still evidences zero humility. Still confesses no sin. Still bears no cross… It’s long past time for us to stop saying this man is “a baby Christian”. It’s long past time for the baby to have grown up under the true prophetic counsel of the Lord.

His evangelical advisors lied to us. They told him what he wanted to hear and then they told us what he wanted us to hear. By any definition that’s the stuff of idolatry. They sold the soul of our evangelical family to the godless culture of the dogs for mere political gruel.

Now that Trump has returned to the campaign trail (3 rallies in the last two months) where do we hear our evangelical leaders warning the elect of the now obvious abuses of this man’s power? the ongoing hostility of his spirit? the ongoing unrighteousness of his ways? the ongoing pride of his heart and the ongoing deceitfulness of his character? No where. The man has heeded none of our evangelical leaders’ “alleged” counsel. There is no reason to believe it was ever there. And every reason to believe that it bore no root in the man. He is a barren tree, stripped naked for all to see – except for those who still need their idol to be clothed.

To those who were telling the king of Jerusalem what he wanted to hear, and the people what they wanted to hear, all the while opposing the long suffering words of the Lord through Jeremiah chapter 21 declares: “12 Thus says the Lord: “Execute judgment in the morning; and deliver him who is plundered out of the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go forth like fire and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings. 13 Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain,” says the Lord, “Who say, ‘Who shall come down against us? Or who shall enter our dwellings?’ 14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,” says the Lord; “I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it shall devour all things around it.” (Jeremiah 21:12-14)

Zedekiah wanted to hear news of the Lord’s protection, revival and a return to Judah’s freedom and prosperity. That’s what all the prophets surrounding him were forecasting. “We’re the Lord’s covenant people! Jeremiah, did you yourself not say, ‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.’? (Jeremiah 29:11)

Instead the prophet of the Lord maintained: “5 The Lord Himself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and fury and great wrath. 6 He will strike the inhabitants of this city. He shall not spare them, or have pity or mercy.” (Jeremiah 21:5-6)

The advisors of our day must be advised. And those of us who have allowed their narrative to supplant what we have long known was NOT going on behind the scenes – we must also be advised: The Lord is not winking at our adultery. He sees it all – much clearer than I can write about it.

Now, not only is our former President’s nakedness exposed, so is our leaders’ – and our own. Soon (very soon) the judgment will be done. And the hour for a sword from God’s mouth will be here.
