Babylon

The Babylon of the end of the age is Sodom with all the wealth, and commerce of the nations. It’s the consummate picture of the unfettered, dominant, excess-driven human heart. Babylon will be God’s way of showing all of human history: “See? This is who humanity will continually tend to become, apart from yielding to the reign of My Son.”

Babylon is the spirit that refuses restraint; the natural spirit that lies within every one of us. Babylon is a mirror to our own uncrucified soul when we have all the wealth, all the power, all the freedom, and all the unifying potential to do, create, say, conspire, and believe anything we want. Babylon is the unsurrendered rich, young ruler on demonic steroids.

There’s never been a generation on the earth that’s fit this category more than us.

If this IS the hour of Jesus’ return, Bible believers need to spend much less time wondering “Who is the antiChrist?” – and MUCH MORE TIME inquiring of the Lord: “How are we (how am I) operating in the spirit of Babylon?”

Instead, the Church (who claims to be experiencing great revival) is found blindly, and with seared consciences, trumpeting the dominion of Babylon.

The difference between the court prophets in Jeremiah’s day, and the court prophets in our own day is that in Jeremiah’s day, the court prophets saw Babylon as the looming threat to Judah, and the covenant people of God. The court prophets in our day make no distinction between Babylon and the Kingdom of our God and King – and patently refuse to stand up to a Babylon who even claims to have the power to “save God” Himself – while they heartily defend and take part in her excesses.

Friends. This is about SO MUCH MORE than politics. It’s an MRI into what’s at work within our souls. Where are the people of God who will come to the Lord in an hour of propaganda, and lavish abundance and ask, “Holy Spirit, show us our ‘whoredom’!”??

  1. I am embracing God’s unconditional love for me and for everyone, singing with the 2nd Chapter of Acts recording “It is Well with my Soul” –“my sin not in part but the whole” (and the sins of the world) is nailed to the cross not in part but the whole.” Also I am strengthened by Psalm 16–“in your presence is fullness of joy” I love you Jon, Joe

    • Thanks for the ref. to Psalm 16, Joe. It reminds me His Presence, His security, and His pleasures are not static realities, but living dynamics of real relationship…
Psalm 16:7+ reminds me of Isaiah 26
“At night my soul longs for You,
      Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently;
For when the earth experiences Your judgments,
The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.” (Isaiah 26:9)
I learn the ways of the King’s heart through both consolation, and through the pressure of His judgments. Often I won’t have the important conversations He longs for me to have, unless I’m under pressure… it’s where He and I “dialogos” the deep questions that penetrate my “status quo” and “cliche” answers. This is where the evangelical Church in America is – whether we let Him ask these deep questions about our collective ways or not…
When I’m circumspect about myself, and know that He sees the truth about my heart, my ways, my culture etc. AND HE STILL LOVES me – that dynamic infuses me with confidence to talk to Him about the “root issues” – knowing that ultimately He’ll lead me/us into joy unspeakable… In that dialogos dynamic, I also learn/appreciate the transcendent ways of the King. (righteousness).
Great love to you too, Joe.

    • Your comment about singing in the Presence of the Lord reminded me of this worship w the Word set from the Upper Room in Dallas. We played this in the Prayer Room yesterday and a couple of the ladies (who deeply “get” the Mary of Bethany dynamic) were a total mess (hahaha) from their “joy-centered” core… Bless you, Joe.

  2. so well put😢❤️‍🩹. Seeing clips on line of the aberrations being said and done in pulpits across the nation is disgusting. Days of Ichabod are here it seems. IMO , our nation seems to be under a double judgement. Our political leaders are arrogant and intent on making a name for themselves, a legacy. The church it seems is lukewarm, sensuous and oblivious. We may be under one of the harshest judgements from heaven. Giving us what we want,

    • Thanks for your encouragement. Yes. I believe the judgments of the Lord are indeed upon the Church in America – and, as in the 2 and 3 chapters of Revelation, for good reward, and for rebuke and purification. At the heart of His judgments is a God of love Who is terrifically committed to His Son having a Bride who will come up looking like Him, thinking like Him, and feeling like Him. The judgments of the Lord also have an increasing intensity to them. And they “will” intensify as the hour for His SOn’s return draws closer and closer. The close blessings of the Father’s Hebrews 12 love to you, friend. JSB
