Of False Prophets, Fraudulent Elections and the Fear of the Lord

It’s estimated that less than 15% of those who voted for President Trump actually believe he lost the election. That’s nearly 60 million Americans. One out of every five of our neighbors.

In the aftermath of the failed reelection of Donald Trump hundreds of ministries around the nation are scrambling for an explanation to the universal failure of a flurry of prophecies about his winning a second term. Articles, tweets and emergency prayer vigils, YouTube videos, convocations and news conferences are coming from all corners of the American evangelical world. Millions are feverishly attempting to rescue the election for their prophecies and their President who poisoned the well on election night (shortly after the polls closed on the east coast) claiming that he was the victim of massive election fraud. Family of God, we’re swiftly moving from being out of kilter with Biblical fealty to being wholly out of touch with reality, thus profoundly infecting our gospel witness with “fables” and “myths” (Titus 1;14; 1 Timothy 1:4; 1 Timothy 4:7)

“For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ; no, we were eyewitnesses of His grandeur. For He received honor and glory from God the Father, when that voice was conveyed to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is my dear Son, in Whom I am delighted.” When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves heard it, for we were with Him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing.” (2 Peter 1:16-19)

What follows here is a raw chronology of some of the storylines, prophetic words and initiatives being spun in evangelical circles, initially emanating from President Trump, himself.

Leading up to the election President Trump repeatedly warned of the Democrats attempting to “steal the election”.

Months prior to the election his son, Donald Jr. had been recruiting a “militia” to fight for his dad’s reelection, knowing Trump was losing to challenger Joseph Biden by double-digits in national polls, and believing many of his supporters were more than zealous enough to run to the battle lines.

On election night, shortly after the polls closed on the east coast, with no evidence in hand, President Trump made his first claim that the election was being stolen from him – merely based on the fact that he was trailing in a number of “must-have” battle-ground states.

Fueled by these angry, demeaning charges, millions of Trump-supporters vehemently believe the election was stolen from their President; many of them, evangelical Christians.

Weeks later, billed as “The Most Important Speech He Ever Made” President Trump released a private YouTube video in which he spends 45 minutes fomenting spurious falsified election allegations.

Three weeks after the election failed to show a clear victory for Trump thousands of his defiant devotees picketed state houses around the country at “Stop the Steal” rallies, protesting what many now claim the most elaborate plot in our nation’s history to steal the US Presidency.

One of President Trump’s (unofficial) attorney’s Sidney Powell invites Christians to Washington to bring down the walls of deception so the true winner of the election can emerge.

A prominent charismatic prayer leader sends daily urgent prayer communique to hundreds of thousands of followers: “We must keep the atmosphere opened up!” In his daily YouTube message he urges intercessors to clear the heavens over America of evil spiritual entities who are attempting to cloud the reality that Donald Trump won the Presidential election. He “shares candidly regarding the contested presidential election. Should we give up and move on or is it worth the fight? He deals with the questions we are facing and shares from his heart.https://bit.ly/3qdsHuB

This same prophetic intercessor gathered tens of thousands online between the midnight hour and 3am to pray from “Independence Hall and the large clock tower located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.” In the dream, an angel came and stood on top of the clock tower and shouted, ‘When the clock strikes 3 a.m., Valkyrie will fall and will not sing, if the sons of the kingdom will pray!’ Sheets said. “I then saw fervent prayer taking place in the night and through the night, and it caused the witchcraft and curse to bounce back to the sender!” Also in the dream, another group of warriors awakened, clothed in battle array. They were surrounded and led by a host of angels. One of the angels declared repeatedly, “The commander’s judgments are supreme!” This energized the warriors, and they joined in with the declaration. At the end of the dream, the scales of justice tipped and became perfectly balanced.

Mario Murillo We’re at the Red Sea. And some Christians are saying, ‘Well, let’s just side with Biden and let this go. And let’s not investigate.’ We’re looking bad to the world, because they don’t have a clue what’s at stake. They’re saying, ‘Oh, well, you know, in four years, Trump could run again.’ Well, right now we’re having the weasel guard the chicken coop. And the fact is, we don’t know what we’re going to look like in four years—if there’ll be anything for Trump to save. “So the point is, it’s now or never,” Murrillo says. “Now is when the church has to find its moral spine, stand up with one voice and say, ‘Let’s get to the bottom of these votes. Let’s get to the bottom of the corruption. Let’s expose and find out whether or not Joe Biden—who in no version of reality is an American president—should be exposed, the whole thing, now. And the church that doesn’t have a heart for this has to at least get out of the way.” Murillo says the church’s laissez-faire attitude is at fault.

Curt Landry and Janet Porter agree God is giving this election to Donald Trump, but we need mountain-moving prayer.”
In this article Landry (a minister from Oklahoma) declares: “God is “completely in control and He is going to give Donald Trump this election. I prophesied in 2015 that Trump would be a two-term president. The word from the Lord for 2020 is from 2 Chronicles 20:20 “Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be supported. Believe His prophets, and you will succeed.” The Lord is saying that if you believe in the Word of God, you will be established. I’ve been operating as a prophet for 30 years, and I have never in my experience as a prophet seen every prophet I know and respect—and some I respect and don’t know—all on the same sheet of music. They are all saying Donald Trump is going to serve two terms... The prophets were right. If everything would have been stopped legally on election night, November 3, like it was supposed to be, Donald Trump technically would have won and Republicans would have won the House, too. Now, you have all this corruption taking place.”

This has now become the bonafide narrative for the vast majority of evangelicals. Never-mind the fact that these baseless accusations and conspiracy theories are being laughed out of courtroom after courtroom, around the nation – most often by life-time conservative judges, and even Trump appointed magistrates.
But as fast as each “kraken” fails to appear, the prophets and nationalists are feverishly setting up new theories in new jurisdictions, ready to “reveal all” in the next epic court battle. Case after case the accusations fail to meet the most basic standards of evidentiary burden. One fizzle after another. You’d think that seeing how much more popular President Trump is than his opponent, some judge, some legislator in one of the handful of battle-ground states would find compelling evidence to proceed with some thread leading to the unraveling of the greatest crime in all American history.

One pastor encourages the body of Christ that the configuration of demons assaulting Donald Trump have changed and intercessors need to employ a new strategy to pray protection around our President.

Dr. Michael Brown, a Messianic apologist observes: “It’s becoming increasingly clear that for some Trump loyalists, voting for him is not enough. Supporting his agenda is not enough. Defending him against his critics is not enough. You must pledge unswerving loyalty to his cause no matter what, otherwise you are a leftist. Scary…It is no hyperbole when I say that things are worse than I imagined.”

One major Christian magazine has turned itself into supernatural election-fraud central, publishing no less than a dozen articles on how the election was stolen, and touting new prophetic words to inspire the “faithful” to help God overturn our election-results. Here are some of the headlines:

The hostile spirit that articles such as these foment within the hearts of millions is aptly identified by columnist, Jim Gerghaty:
When those with prominent platforms and positions of responsibility begin to characterize presidential elections — a normal quadrennial step in changing or maintaining leaders in a constitutional republic — in life-and-death terms, and compare the loss of a preferred candidate to mass murder — say, comparing it to the terrorists in the cockpit of Flight 93 — no one should be surprised when certain folks out there take those words literally and start to see the outcome of an election as a life-or-death struggle that justifies violence. The Post Election Madness Gets Worse” Jim Gerghaty, National Review, December 3, 2020

One of Trump’s legal team, and a member of the Falkirk Center (an evangelical political think-tank) intones “Jesus is Lord” in one breath, and in the next maliciously mocks Trump’s adversary…

Another of Trump’s lawyers, Lin Wood: “‘We the People’ will not let them steal our vote,” he said. “We will not allow them to steal our freedom. Every lie will be exposed.” Then, as if the Holy Spirit had downloaded a prophetic word to him, Wood launched into a faith-filled declaration, “And on Jan. 20, 2021, Donald J. Trump will be sworn in as president of the United States of America.”
The primary message Wood communicated at the Willis Park press conference was “We’re going to fight for our liberty.” He directed these words at the governor of Georgia, whom he insists should call a special session of the state legislature to fix the problems with the election. Wood also named China and George Soros in his address. “We’re not going to let you take our country over,” shouted Wood into the microphone, adding that the message is going to go all the way to Beijing, China. “Never going to happen on our watch. This is America. You’ve picked a fight with the wrong people.” As chants of “USA. USA. USA.” reverberated across the crowd, Wood declared with a fighter’s tone.” (“Lin Wood Invites Holy Spirit to Press Event: ‘This Is 1776 in America Again.” Reported by A.B. Petrucci, Charismanews.com 12/3/2020)

Lin Wood is often also advocating for martial law until the election dust settles and President Trump is handed the election.

One prominent evangelical author and radio-talk-show host has asserted: Jesus once told his followers that the greatest love of all is to lay down your life for your friends. Christian radio talk show host and author Eric Metaxas offered to do just that for President Donald J. Trump during an interview with the president Monday. “I’d be happy to die in this fight,” Metaxas told Trump during a discussion about the president’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election. “This is a fight for everything. God is with us.”

When the administration’s own Cybersecurity Chief declared that the 2020 election system was “more secure than any in history”, and was then summarily fired by the President, Trump’s lawyer, Joe diGenova blasted Krebs: “That guy is a Class A moron. He should be drawn and quartered, taken out at dawn and shot.” Krebs crime? Publicly disagreeing with the President.

Another pastor Rick Wiles, senior pastor of Flowing Streams Church in Vero Beach, Florida is publicly advocating for the mass execution of those conspiring against Donald Trump. Yes. This is where idolatrous behavior goes.

Beloved, the frenzied rhetoric attached to each new allegation of voter fraud, and the many prophetic words doubling and tripling down about the Lord reversing the election reads like the story of the desperate prophets of baal in 1 Kings 18:20-39. The feverish seizing of every new suspicious allegation and conspiracy yarn is a severe corruption of our Christian witness. The spirit of these arguments, rallies and prophecies also has all the earmarks of the May 14th dream where evangelical nationalist lashed themselves to the Washington Monument in the middle of a thunderstorm moments before the edifice was struck by lightning. The May 2020 Vision: God’s Judgement Against Evangelical Nationalism

What then are we to do?
The poison is in our body. It taints our culture and our status-quo way of thinking and reacting. Removing the toxins from our system is not a “once-and-done” fix. It requires a movement of repentance and works that keep with the movement of repentance. Here’s a three-fold start:
1. We must come before the Lord in the spirit of Psalm 2:11-12 repentance, exaltation, fear and faith-building.
2. We must understand the Lord’s serious intent to judge His own people and remove the idolatry that’s corrupted our relationship with Him.
3. We must exercise redemptive discipline over the purveyors of false teaching and false prophecy, detaching ourselves from paradigms that pervert the way of the Kingdom.

1. OFFERING THE LORD A PSALM 2 RESPONSE
The Lord is calling His people to respond to Him from Psalm 2: 11-12
“Exalt, rejoice and repent with trembling. Blessed is everyone who takes refuge in the Lord.”
Exalt Me. Do not exalt a man, or the glory of a nation.
Take refuge in Me. Do not take refuge in political power.
Tremble before Me. Do not tremble before evil and conspiracies.
Repent of your idolatry.
Rejoice in Me. Do not rejoice in pride and lies.

2. ENGAGING THE LORD’S ZEAL TO PURGE HIS PEOPLE FROM IDOLATRY
This is a link to more than 20 Old and New Testament examples of how God seriously addresses idolatry among His people. This is prayer material. These holy texts are meant to be brought before the Lord, where we may “inquire in His temple” (Psalm 27:4) about the degree to which these unrighteous ways may be found within us. Take up these words and let the Holy Spirit speak sobriety to your heart, that we may be without spot, blemish or wrinkle; unfettered unto wholehearted love for His Son.

3. DISCIPLINING OURSELVES FROM FALSE PROPHETS
The false prophets that Peter warns about in 2 Peter 2 were within the Church – not outside the Church. Where the American Church is currently going in “doubling-down” in our idolatrous nationalism, malice and self-saving will soon bring God’s holy and swift wrath upon us.

2 Peter 2 is a vital portion of scripture for the body of Christ to understand in this hour. Open it. Study it. Inquire of the Lord about it. Let Him apply every verse to our life together.

2 PETER 2
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
2 Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned;
3 and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;
5 and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;
6 and if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction by reducing them to ashes, having made them an example to those who would live ungodly lives thereafter;
7 and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men
8 (for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds),
9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment for the day of judgment,
10 and especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority. Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties,
11 whereas angels who are greater in might and power do not bring a reviling judgment against them before the Lord.
12 But these, like unreasoning animals, born as creatures of instinct to be captured and killed, reviling where they have no knowledge, will in the destruction of those creatures also be destroyed,
13 suffering wrong as the wages of doing wrong. They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are stains and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, as they carouse with you,
14 having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin, enticing unstable souls, having a heart trained in greed, accursed children;
15 forsaking the right way, they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
16 but he received a rebuke for his own transgression, for a mute donkey, speaking with a voice of a man, restrained the madness of the prophet.
17 These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved.
18 For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error,
19 promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.
20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them.

In this hour, we want to walk in purity. We want to see God, clearly. We want to engage Him in Holy Spirit truth and wholehearted love.

4 Major Tripping Points for the American Church in 2020

Here are four major tripping points that are causing the Body of Christ to misread and misrespond to what the Spirit is doing in the Church in 2020.

1. The first is that many many Christians have no applied theology of “Biblical judgement”. They believe God won’t judge anyone, or any group/nation until the end of the age. This runs entirely contrary to the plenary witness of Scripture – old and new testaments. God’s judgements (Psalm 19; John 16:8; 1 Peter 4:17) are the way He reproves, rebukes, disciplines, warns and rewards His people collectively (Revelation 2 – 3) as they are being conformed to the image of His Son. This will happen in an intensified way in the minutes before Jesus returns. (Matthew 24; Mark 13)

2. The second is that many American evangelicals ardently believe the Lord is judging our nation in this hour. Although that day will come, in 2020 it’s not America that’s God’s focal point. It’s the Church. It’s His daughters and sons that the Lord has brought into His crucible in an intensified way over these last several months.I don’t believe the Lord is telling us anything new about our godless nation. This is His Word to America: “Repent and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ!” (Acts 17:30; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 Timothy 2:4) This is the same general Word He’s been giving to us as a nation of people since before 1607, 1776, 1865 and beyond 2001.

3. The Word the Lord IS amplifying in this year (especially) is His Word to the Church; His Son’s bride. He reproves the American Church because He loves us. (Hebrews 12:5-9) He chastens us because the pressure causes our hearts to adjust our ways to amplify His Son’s glory and apply His holiness (Hebrews 12:10) to our lives. Judgement must begin with the household of God (1 Peter 4:17) so that the “ungodly and the sinners” (1 Peter 4:18) in our nation know how to respond and trust the Creator they have not known.

4. One of the things the Lord is emphasizing is our uncircumspect quest for political dominion. It’s become a false god to us. Consider how many prayer rallies we’ve had over this last 6 months. By my count we’ve had at least 27 different nation-wide prayer calls for America since April. 27+ rallies to pray for our nation – not the Church. (There is a difference.) I am glad to pray for our nation, but the major emphasis of everyone of these calls has been to rally millions of evangelicals to appeal to the eternal God to change the course of the political dominion of America. Never mind the fact that this type of intercession is almost completely foreign to the New Testament Church. Consider what HASN’T been the priority that’s brought us together in these assemblies:
a.) We haven’t been moved to assemble ourselves together because the Church in America has massively failed to make disciples in our nation over the last 40 years. We aren’t rallying to fast and pray because millions of our neighbors are going to hell on our watch.
b.) We aren’t weeping between the porch and the altar because, week-in and week-out the presence of the Lord is largely absent from our meetings.
c.) We aren’t crying out to God because the Church exists with very little power to cast out demons and lay hands on the sick.
No. The prevailing reason for these many prayer gatherings is because we fear the loss of civil political control; a power that Jesus never called us to pursue, nor promised that we should expect to have. In fact, in the couple of places where political dominion is extended to Jesus and the apostles it is resoundingly repudiated as out of kilter with the way of our transcendent King. Simply put, our adulterous pursuit is a desperately “crooked path” that as the Lord returns with ascending glory, He WILL straighten within His Bride. (Isaiah 40:3-5)

May the Lord be exalted as we faithfully respond to His judgements in this coming year, beloved. He is worthy to be magnified.

Beloved, In What Are We Seeking Refuge?

One of the ringing prophetic words from 2020 has been and continues to be: “Do not bind yourself to this idol in this storm.”

The word came from a dream the Lord gave me in May, where He showed me numerous evangelical leaders lashing themselves to the Washington Monument in the middle of a thunderstorm, just before the obelisk was struck by lightening. The vision was a terrible picture of God’s discipline upon our evangelical family’s inordinate attachment to carnal, political nationalism.

Weeks later the Washington Monument was actually struck by lightening. After eight additional warnings about a decapitation that was to come in August, on August 7th, exactly 12 weeks from the date of the dream, Jerry Falwell Jr. (the first, and perhaps the chief evangelical champion for Donald Trump’s election in 2016) was abruptly removed from his positions as head of the Falkirk Center (an evangelical political think-tank), and President of Liberty University (the largest evangelical university in the nation). The Lord had struck the very issue on the very hour He had promised.

In November I sent this word to thousands of evangelical leaders, pastors, and intercessors. And over the last four weeks I have received numerous invitations to dialogue further; and even more confirmations that the word accurately reflects the warning that they were hearing in this election season.

Now, in the second week of December, as we see so many prophets, leaders and family members running to rescue the President’s allegations of a “rigged election”, feverishly praying for the Lord to expose the claims of mass corruption, all so the Church may thrive under the shadow of American democracy – this word stands as a significant alarm to our American Church family:

“Do not bind yourself to this idol in this storm.”

The strength in this word is its simplicity. There is One Safe Place to put our trust in the storm that rages all around us. And among the many false and unsafe places that the Church dare not put our trust, is the towering, proud promise of American nationalism.

The word also speaks to how deeply and personally the Lord is looking for each individual to heed Psalm 2:12 and Psalm 27:14, two of the most significant and most often quoted Psalms over this past year.

PSALM 2
After describing the storm of the Lord’s judgments upon the nations, David concludes by exhorting the faithful: “Blessed are all WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM!” (Psalm 2:12) It’s vital that in these minutes before He judges all the nations, the faithful of God learn how to “take refuge in Him in all aspects of our lives: health, finance, ministry, family, social relationships, heart attitudes…

He Himself wants to be our security; face to face. He has not promised He will keep our jobs, our reputations, our churches, our communities, our nation or even our families from shaking and even falling apart.

JESUS’ WARNING ABOUT THE PSALM 2 HOUR
He told His disciples, “Be ready for the hour when your close family members (Matthew 10:36) turn on you and exert pressure upon the way you run your life so that you draw back from following me with all your heart. Those days are coming. And the enemy of your eternal security will be living inside the same four walls of your house. Prepare yourself for this heart-rending reality today. I want you to be so close to Me that by comparison, those you love are like enemies to you (Luke 14:26). That’s how deeply I’m calling you to cultivate loyal love for Me.”

He told the disciples their nation would be decimated; one stone not left upon another (Mark 13:2). Imagine Jesus saying the same thing about the Washington Mall. In the year 2050, I’ll be 90. My children will be in their 50s and 60s. My grandchildren in their 40s. And America is no more. The Smithsonian gone. The White House leveled. The towering monument to national self-indpendence, crumbled to dust. If this horrible picture were to take place in the timespan that it took place in the lives of the disciples, what would we need in order to keep our families, our lives, and our hearts and souls secure? What kind of lifestyle would we need to cultivate now, so that in that hour we could say, “In the midst of this time of trouble, the judgements of the Lord are true and altogether righteous, and it is well with my soul?”

That’s the proclamation He’s issuing to each individual. “I am your personal security. Learn to make Me your refuge, today. I will supply you with what your heart and your family and your life needs in ways that your church, your job, your social network and your nation cannot in the days ahead.”

THE PERSONAL CHALLENGE
Here’s my point – with questions for each of us to consider:
What if, through all the billions of prayers that have been prayed for revival in our land, the Lord, in His perfect understanding and wisdom knows the only way He can release a great harvest of souls to the Church in America is for “America” to become the Church’s enemy? Would our hearts be OK with the Lord orchestrating this scandalous scenario?
It happened in China in the 70’s.
It’s the current reality in Iran.
It was the Church’s context in Israel in the first Century.

What if God knows something about our “rich, young, ruler hearts” that we don’t know!? In the calamitous event that this could happen; that the great American system could become the enemy of Jesus’ Kingdom, when push came to shove, and we had to make “Sophies Choice”, where would we “American Christians” put our life investment? Which would we see as offering us the greater potential for security?

What would we begin to say about those who were putting what we eventually valued most at risk? What accusations and murders would line our hearts against these “enemies”?

Dare it be that Jesus knows more about the true nature of our hearts than we know ourselves?
Dare it be that He has greater insight on how to advance His Kingdom than we do?
Dare it be that He’s shaking our lives right now to help us align our unstable hearts with the unshakeable nature of His Kingdom?
Dare it be that this choice, between allegiance to God and allegiance to a nation that is not as much of a friend to His Kingdom as we think it is, is in fact, already upon us?

WHAT JESUS IS LOOKING FOR
In Luke 18 we hear our King wondering about what His earthly Kingdom will look like in the hour of His return. At the very center of the core of what He longs to find is redeemed human beings who, through all of the tempest of the pressures of this world are looking to Him for security, provision and vitality. “When the Son of Man returns, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) It’s a question that has real daily practical application. He’s not just talking about whether we’ve marked the right theological boxes. Good theology is good, but it’s meant to lead to good living under the perfect leadership of our good God.

Because there is a great temptation for white evangelical Americans to lean on the laws of government for our security; protecting our right to assemble; providing us with the right to freely worship the God Who promises that if you look to the world for friendship you will actually make yourself an enemy to Me (James 4:4). The Lord is taking direct aim at these issues and saying, “Don’t bind yourself to the promise of a free government or the constitution of a nation of fallen people. And certainly don’t bind yourself to someone who promises (but at the end of the day has no true and lasting power) to grant these liberties to you. Bind yourself to Me, directly. Heart to heart. Weak people to strong God. Trust me for your food; for your shelter; for your health; for your family’s salvation; for the whole well-being of the household of God.”

This is a much much different offer than trusting a person or a law or a constitution to guarantee our rights and liberties and comforts and safety.

WE STUMBLE OVER WHAT WE DON’T SEE
As we approach the minute of His return, we must begin to hear the unBiblical nature of this type of thinking. As the time of increased judgements comes to our world, it is a tragic comedy that we would grab our idols, run to the Lord and say, “Here. Hold these and keep these safe. We need these to stay safe in order for us to be safe.” As ludicrous as this scene is, it is the real-life picture of what Jesus, the apostles and the prophets tell us many will stumble over in the hour of His return.

“Many will stumble over the stone and the rock, and will fall and be seriously injured, and will be ensnared and captured.” (Isaiah 8:15)

“I will make many stumble. They will fall over one another in their hurry to flee. They will say, ‘Get up! Let’s go back to our own people. Let’s go back to our homelands because the enemy is coming to destroy us.” (Jeremiah 46:16)

“And those of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering. When they stumble, they will be granted some help. But many will unite with them deceitfully.” (Daniel 11:33-34)

“Therefore you shall stumble in the day; the prophet also shall stumble with you in the night.” (Hosea 4:5)

“A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. they stumble, being faithless to the word, to which they also were appointed.” (1 Peter 2:8)

“And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.” (Matthew 24:10-11)

The Lord is calling to American evangelicalism with great love and great longing to sort out the issues of false trust and false loyalty; much in the same way that He looked at the rich, young ruler (Mark 10:21) and said: “Give Me your wealth. Trust Me with your well-being and vitality. Look to Me for all the authority you need. Take up your cross and follow Me. (Mark 10:21) Do you really believe that I am going to be good to you, and will provide everything you need in this life and also know how to create the optimal environment for My Kingdom, and the eternal welfare of the most number of souls?”

PSALM 27
Psalm 27 is David’s discourse on how to remain strong through the time of great trouble. He concludes his observations by exhorting his readers: “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14) The Lord is saying in these words: “Wait on Me! Let Me fill your heart with courage to trust Me. I will strengthen your heart. Wait on Me!

The Hebrew word for “wait” is the word “Qavah”. It’s literal meaning is “to bind” or “to twist” one thing to another thing. It’s the picture of an intertwining rope – the three-folded cord of (Ecclesiastes 4:12) that is not easily broken. God knows, we, ourselves; our quickly offended, easily bamboozled, here-today-gone-tomorrow souls are but a thin, frail thread in this storming, tumultuous world. He says, “Don’t bind yourself to another thin, frail thread – not in this storm. In the grand scheme of things it’s just a thin frail thread like you. Come to Me, and let the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit bind and twist Ourselves to you.

This, our God Himself, is the great tower of our refuge in this hour beloved. Let us bind ourselves to Him, and refuse all others.

PSALM 52
“Why do you boast about your evil plans, O powerful man? God’s loyal love protects me all day long. Your tongue carries out your destructive plans; it is as effective as a sharp razor, O deceiver. You love evil more than good; lies more than speaking the truth. (Selah) You love to use all the words that destroy, and the tongue that deceives. Yet God will make you a permanent heap of ruins. He will scoop you up and remove you from your home; He will uproot you from the land of the living. (Selah)… Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others! But I am like a flourishing olive tree in the house of God; I continually trust in God’s loyal love. I will continually thank You when You execute judgment; I will rely on You, for Your loyal followers know You are good.”

Lynching, Justice and Kingdom Revival

More than 4,400 African Americans were lynched across 20 states between the end of Reconstruction in 1877 and 1950.

Here’s a map of the counties where lynchings were carried out.

4400 lynchings in 928 U.S. Counties between 1877 and 1950

The Equal Justice Initiative has produced memorial markers, two identical markers for each of the 928 counties where lynchings occurred over roughly 100 years…

One of the two markers for each county hangs in the @eji_org museum in Montgomery, Alabama. The other marker waits for the county itself to claim it, and display it in their county seat.

Many markers remain at the EJI Museum – yet unclaimed by their county.

Get the picture?

Here’s my point…

We’ll know “revival”: the expanding, redeeming Kingdom reign of Jesus has come to a county when that county can joyfully point to bulging converts in their churches, and their marker from EJI in their courthouses.

Such is the security we have in the mercy of our God.

Remember Lot’s Wife

When describing His return, Jesus warned His disciples to “remember Lot’s wife”. What is it exactly that He wants us to learn by remembering this tragic figure?

“As the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. REMEMBER LOT’S WIFE.” (Luke 17:24-32)

Beloved, the Father’s given us all the time in the world to “inquire of the Lord” (Psalm 27:4) in 2020. He is SO zealous for us to get His insight re: these seven really important questions:
1. What is it that Jesus urgently wants us to remember about Lot’s wife?

2. What (issues, values, sins) do I need to leave behind?

3. Unto what is He leading us?

4. Who destroyed what was behind? Who is this God?

5. Who is faithfully leading us forward? What zeal is in His heart to fulfill His promise to His Son, and to us, His people?

6. Do I have what it takes to make this journey with Him?

7. What adjustments do I need to make to my lifestyle in order to successfully go with Him on this journey in this hour of history? What do I need to do today in order to remove all temptation to be like Lot’s wife on the Lord’s day?

Seek My Face: One Year Later

Note from Jon:
One year ago today we sent this letter to thousands of pastors, worship leaders and intercessors around the Southwest and our nation… Beloved, it’s vital that we know that we (the Church) are in God’s “time of trouble”. (Psalm 27:5)
As 2020 draws to a close, how have we adjusted our lives to “seek His face”? It’s the most vital question we can ask. He so longs to fasten our lives to the One Thing that cannot be shaken.

Beloved friends,

As we enter the year 2020, our nation is raging with increased hostility and spiritual confusion. Undoubtably many of you feel this intensification in our land. You see the mounting division between darkness and light, and understand how these storms foment great fear, anger, animosity, and polarization within our culture, and buffet the faith and affections of buffet the faith and affections of the household of God (1 Peter 4:17).

These pressures are not out of the Father’s control. God is constantly playing chess on nineteen levels. Through these compressions He intends to birth revival in our land that will sweep millions into His family. He also promises to bring forth a radiant Bride for His Son; a Bride Who is filled with humility, joy, confidence, wisdom, reverence and wholehearted love for her returning Bridegroom.

In this hour it is so vital that the Church understand the nature of the calamity, the intentions of our God, and the means of the strength we need to prevail through this (1 Peter 4:17).

The “Self-Saving” Church

What concerns me most in this season is the degree to which I see us, the Church, engaging in self-saving. In as much as we are people who are looking for and hastening the Day of our Lord (2 Peter 3:12), and inasmuch as we are people who know and testify to the uber-depths of our Lord’s abundant mercy (we’ve tasted and seen, and it’s been applied in our own lives…) we, of all people should be fearfully confident in the promised power of the Lord’s blood to affect the work of human redemption. It’s what our whole sin-drenched world is dying for a lack of…

It’s also incumbent upon us to remember that in numerous places in the New Testament we’re told that on the Day of Jesus’ appearing the secrets of our heart will be disclosed. (Luke 2:35; Mark 4:22; Romans 2:16; 1 Corinthians 14:25) This dynamic is what the judgements of the Lord are all about today, in 2020. The Lord is graciously using pressurized circumstances in our social structures, relationships, governmental systems, and ecclesial debates to disclose the attitudes that we really have toward Him, ourselves, and others in our world. He wants us to align the deep (even secret) ways of our hearts with the deep ways of His Son’s heart, so that in that Day, “when He appears”we can “rejoice with trembling” (Psalm 2:11) because we have become “like Him” (1 John 3:2) And so that we’re not the ones who are surprised about the reality of what He exposes in our hearts. (1 Corinthians 4:5)

One of the most tragic things that will happen in the Day of the Lord’s return will be the massive carnage of souls that will crumble under the weight of the true and righteous judgement of the Lord: “Though you prophesied in My Name, though you cast out demons in My Name, and though you did many wonderful things in My Name – you and I never knew each other.” (Matthew 7:22-23)

Beloved, the excruciating reality of millions of Christians on that Day will be that they short-changed the Lord’s many (temporal) “thlipsis” judgements and left themselves unprepared for the Lord’s final judgement.

As a simple pastor who has been in professional ministry for 35 years I can say with some perspicuity, the Church in the west has chronically tended toward minimizing the work of the cross in our lives in the short-run, and it has left us largely and tragically impotent in the long-run. In far too many instances we’ve “sought to save our own lives”, when the Lord of the resurrection was urgently calling us to “die to self-saving; self-justification, self-correction and self-promotion” for the sake of being united with Jesus in the likeness of our death.

Friends, Jesus’ maxim “Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it” (Luke 9:24) isn’t a ministry principle open to debate. It’s a promise from the Lord of Life Himself. To apply this Word of the Lord in all aspects of our lives is what (Galatians 2:20) means when it says: “…and the life I now live, I live by faith in the One Who loves me, and gave His life up for me.”

This one statement, especially in a year like 2020, when the judgements of the Lord surround the Church at every turn, should fill each of our hearts with holy fear. This is no hour to fiddle with the straw of self-saving. Better to have been thorough before the Lord in righteousness, and lay the fruit of our work at His redemptive feet than to be found shallow before the Lord and tragically compromised and fruitless in ministry in the years ahead. Our world needs the witness of the integrity of the gospel solution in Christ. Those who hear the word of our testimonies have a right to expect that. In the end, which is where we’re all focused, our Lord will demand it. “He who does not take up His own cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” (Matthew 10:38)

The Lord’s deep, thorough and authentic work of the cross to us all – unto His resurrection power.
